Fast Facts: Taco Del Mar was founded in 1992 and now numbers more than 270 stores nationwide. Opening a Taco Del Mar requires an investment between $150,000 and $250,000, he said. Franchisees receive 17 days of training and help with site selection. The company charges a $23,000 fee for the first franchise and $15 for all additional locations. Franchisees pay a 6 percent royalty fee and a 1 percent advertising charge weekly.
A typical Taco Del Mar runs 1,200 to 1,500 square feet and is located in a strip mall surrounded by office buildings since lunchtime represents the busiest time. About half the customers eat in and the average check comes in around $6.50.
