Tomorrow’s Coming

The Christmas Season is over and the New Year has begun. Most of us have been off from work for some portion of time, but now all the hoopla is over and tomorrow is coming. What’s on your calendar? Do you need a new job? Do you have an interview scheduled?
If you need employment and no one called to set up an interview over the last 2 weeks or so, get ready. Your time is coming. With tomorrow coming, preparation and planning for your job search is very important. Don’t just sit around waiting for the phone to ring. Activate yourself, make something happen. Are you clear on what job you are looking for? Or will you take anything? Don’t do that. Have a plan. Invest some time in reviewing the job descriptions you have interest in. Evaluate your skills and abilities, your experiences. Write down what they are looking for and determine that you will be able to speak to every qualification for the position.
Take some time to research the organizations where you want to work. Most companies have websites with lots of great information about the organization. Read news articles about the organization. Find someone who knows someone, who knows someone who works for the organization and ask good questions about the state of the organization, the organizational climate. What’s working well for the organization and what’s not working so well. This information will help you target how you can add value to the organization if given an opportunity to discuss the job opportunity. The phone may be silent right now, today. But tomorrow is coming. If the phone rang first thing tomorrow morning and it was the company you have been waiting for, are you ready? Could you go and sit down with them tomorrow and discuss who you are and what you bring to the table? Get ready! Tomorrow is coming!

Great advice! Happy New Year!
