Too much cricket these days?

I spent a sleepless month in September. You know why. The T20 World Cup. I finally got my forty winks after the final. Before my eyes could adapt to light, Australia came down and I found myself entrapped again. But it seems a little different with the Indian Oil Cup. I’ll admit that I was never oh so looking forward to it. With the first match turning out to be a fizzle, I have actually decided to help Mom out with Diwali prep during the holiday.

Yes, we’ve talked about players getting injured and dead beat due to nonstop playing, but on the other end, the spectators are getting a little tired of watching, too. Just like players need a break from playing, I personally feel I need a break from watching it, too, sometimes.

Of course, this is how the ICC’s system works, but couldn’t they make room for some off-time during November and December when no international cricket is played? Just like the WTA and ATP are approaching their end season. When the Australian Open starts next year, everybody is going to be all excited for the next season. Even with football, they have intervals between international tournaments.

What’s the point with playing so much cricket? If they want to make more money, maybe they could have a few more T20 cups.

Not sure if the Australian, South African and New Zealand cricket boards would give away to months of their summer so you can have a break Dinnie.

    Whats Diwali?

  2. SIXANDOUT says:

I think I meant the ICC. The boards would have to follow if ICC made such a rule.

Diwali is the biggest Indian (hindu) festival. Fireworks, crackers, lights, and all.

Yeah i know you mean the ICC, but you see in the southern hemisphere, we have our summer in december, and cricket being a summer sport, we aren’t really looking to give away 2 months of the 6 we have.

Perhaps we could have the offseason in may and june instead.

  4. SIXANDOUT says:

Well, duh. That would be summer here. But I guess I won’t mind. Summers, I prefer playing more than watching.
