Top 10 Ways Comments Hurt Your Blog and Brand Reputation

blogger-blog.jpgDarren Rowse of Problogger.net fame and a member of the b5media leadership team (of which Brandcurve is a network blog), published a great post today about the Top 10 Ways to Hurt Your Blog’s Brand by Commenting on Other Blogs

Here are a few of my favorites from the list:

  • One or two word comments – Why bother?  It doesn’t help your blog/brand or the conversation to post comments that say virtually nothing.
  • Flaming and personal attacks – Why waste your time?  Attacks don’t further the conversation or help anyone.  They only help deteriorate your online reputation and brand.
  • Anonymous flaming – Don’t be a coward.  If you need to say something anonymously, then chances are whatever you want to say is inappropriate.  If you can’t say it without hiding behind anonymity, don’t say it at all.

Check out Darren’s full top 10 list here, and next time you leave a comment on another blog, remember your words can affect your brand and blog reputation.

Are there any other commenting techniques or trends you can think of that can negatively impact your blog or personal brand?

I really liked that list; I saw it earlier today. But I think he may have collectively scared a bunch of people into not being the first post commenter :)

    See how brave I am.

  2. Thanks for being brave, Jennifer!
