Thanks for sharing the link to the niche article. It was really well thought out. My blog was new last month, but I've sold 35 books and started writing when my children were babies, like the blogging moms at home. Finding my writing niche then (for books) sounds like the same process they are using to find a niche online. I also have that Ray Bradbury quote on my office wall: "Find something you love to do, and you will never work a day in your life." A lot of truth to that!

I'm a big believer in niche marketing. As I discuss in the article "How to Make Freelance Writing a Full-time Career in 2008." Choosing a niche makes it easier to sell your skill as a freelance writer. It's also cheaper because you can speak to a particular demographic (target market).

Once you’ve got your foot in the door, it’s infinitely easier to get clients to entrust you with projects that fall outside your niche.

I consider it "nicheing it success!"

Sincerely,
Yuwanda Black, Publisher

Anne,

Thanks for sharing this Freelance Parent post with your readers. It's turned into quite the topic for us over the last couple of months. While we're still branched out to a large degree, we're working to focus more on writing for nonprofits as our main niche. Like you said in your comment, though, these things can always change!
