Top 6 teams with a shot at the Super Bowl – Peyton Manning Indy, Tom Brady Pats, Why no Bears?

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Lovie Smith cries on Tony Dungy’s shoulder after being left out of Top Six

Lovie Smith (Photo: AP / David J. Phillip)You know it is way too early to predict the winner of the Super Bowl, but that never stops us, does it?

Vic Carucci at NFL.com has listed 6 teams with the best shot at going and then 8 others that still have a shot at going.

The rest of the teams are just doing shots, which isn’t so bad.

The rest of the teams are listed as wait until next year. It would seem like my humbling bumbling Lions will have to wait for several next years, but Vic didn’t say that.

Let’s look at the top 6.

These are in alphabetical order so don’t get worked up and remember, these are Vic’s picks not mine. (Hey, Vic’s Picks, maybe he should copyright that?)

Anyway, here they are:

TOP SIX

Baltimore
Indianapolis
New England
New Orleans
Philadelphia
San Diego

THE EIGHT THAT HAVE A SHOT AT THE SUPER BOWL

Cincinnati
Chicago
Dallas
Denver
Pittsburgh
St. Louis
San Francisco
Seattle

NO CHANCE IN ‘H’ ‘E’ DOUBLE ‘L’
My Lions

Chicago has to be feeling the snub.

Chicago: Only if Cedric Benson can provide the same support for Rex Grossman that he and Thomas Jones provided on the way to Super Bowl XLI. source

As your intrepid author reported yesterday in Rex Grossman is better and the Bears will Growl, Chicago has vastly improved their offense and still has great defense, plus they only have to get by the Saints or Eagles out of the Top 6.

It your gallivanting author was handicapping the Top Six it would go like this:
New England – Added the missing receivers and a great linebacker.
San Diego – A loaded team and LT.
Indianapolis – Peyton, Peyton, Peyton.
Philadelphia – Donovan McNabb, if he is playing by playoff time.
Baltimore – Awesome D.
New Orleans – Brees and Bush.

The next 8 have weaknesses.

Cincinnati – too many guys in jail and others that did not show up last year.
Chicago – still has to prove that offense works during the season.
Dallas – TO is a distraction and Tony Romo is limited.
Denver – 2nd year QB.
Pittsburgh – lack of weapons.
St. Louis – lack of defense.
San Francisco – on the verge, but still needs some pieces.
Seattle – lack of D, weapons getting old.

Still, because it is a playoff, teams can get hot and who knows?

Seems pretty valid to me. Has good points with the 8 teams that have a shot at the Bowl. But every other team has weaknesses too, and they all are 0-0 right now. So they all have a shot at this point.
