Top Indy Games of 2006

Champion of the independent games cause, Russ Carroll, has ear-marked the Top 10 Independent Games of 2006. In the fifth iteration of Game Tunnel’s chart listing, you can find everything from Sims-like character manipulation to real time strategy, and most things in between.

The reason I’m posting this, albeit a little late, is that I’m a huge fan of independent games myself. They’re affordable (trials for freeeeeeee!), adventurous, often innovative, and they haven’t, perhaps due to their creators continuing poverty and struggle, forgotten that the main goal in gaming is fun.

Congratulations to Czech design crew Cinemax for snagging top honours with Gumboy Crazy Adventures, a game that I’ve tried and immensely enjoyed. It reminds me a little of Sonic the Hedgehog spliced with Super Mario, all in the form of a wad of gum. Intriguing? Try it for yourself.
