Top Posts in 2007

OVer the year, I’ve covered a lot of viral marketing, some games, a bit of social media and many other things that caught my eye. Here’s my top posts for the year.

  • Barbie Girl: I posted a couple of times about this online world. The popularity of the post has been driven from search, from what I imagine to be the target pre-teen girls searching for information on the site, including codes to get access to the special areas. So you’re never too young to use Google. It’s also indicative of the online habits of future purchasers, who are comforatble on the web and working ad connecting in virtual worlds.
  • Wilkinson Sword’s Fight for Kissesa superb ad and video game that got a lot of buzz – and awards.
  • Sony Playdoh and Sony Walkman. Sony have made bad mistakes in the past, but are starting to be able to use social media far better than they have done in the past to promote their offline activities and advertisments. Here were two lovely examples.
  • Windorphins. This got traction as almost all the ads were teasers. They never really explained they were for eBay, just led with the neologism. They posters and banner ads were pretty ubiquitous, which lead to lots of people looking it up, trying to work out what it was for. One neat tactic, getting people curious enough to come and find you, but you have to be careful of the payoff. In this case, I saw a lot of disappointment when people understood what the ad was for.
  • MacDonald’s Monopoly. What do you get when you cross a popular fast food restaurant with a way to win money? Lots and lots of buzz. The game seems to be fairly popular (they’ve been doing it a few years) and you get a lot of people looking for best ways to win.
  • 9 worst practices in social media. Interesting, a few companies on this list have been guilty, hopefully they are slowly seeing the light. Despite plenty of lists and advice out there on how not to do it, there’s plenty of mistakes to be made. One of the pages I plan to create next year is an ongoing list of blunders, which should make good reading this time next year.

So that was my most popular. What was your favourite from the above or elsewhere on the blog?
