Week One is notorious for have crappy games. It happens every single year – teams play out of conference, mismatched games, often with Div II schools. Yuck. I wish Week One was more exciting, though I guess it makes sense this way – it is kind of like a warm up.
That said, there will be a few good games during Week One (Thursday, Aug. 28 to Monday, Sept. 1). Here are my top ten games of Week One, in no particular order:
- Alabama at Clemson, Saturday at 8:00 PM (on ABC)
- Illinois at Missouri, Saturday at 8:30 PM (on ESPN)
- Tennessee at UCLA, Monday at 8:00 PM (on ESPN)
- Virginia Tech at East Carolina, Saturday at Noon (on ESPN)
- Michigan State at California, Saturday at 8:00 PM (on ABC)
- Fresno State at Rutgers, Monday at 4:00 PM (on ESPN)
- Utah at Michigan, Saturday at 3:30 PM (on ABC)
- USC at Virginia, Saturday at 3:30 PM (on ABC)
- Kentucky at Louisville, Sunday at 3:30 PM (on ESPN)
- Appalachian State at LSU, Saturday at 5:00 PM (on ESPN) Come on…you know you want to see App State kick ass during Week One like last year!
Ok, some of those are a stretch. The best game will undoubtedly be Bama/Clem or Illi/Mizz, but who knows…we’ve been surprised before and we might be again!
