Torry Holt Officially Signs with the Jags

Over the weekend, we reported that Torry Holt was close to signing with Jacksonville Jaguars. On Monday, those rumors became reality when Holt signed a deal with the Jags that could pay him as much as $20 million over the next three seasons.

Holt’s contract has a completely guaranteed first year, however he won’t receive a signing bonus. Of the $20 million, approximately $7 million is based on incentives.

There’s a great chance that Holt emerges as Jacksonville’s number one wide receiver in 2009. He didn’t play well for the St. Louis Rams last season but he also had a few injury concerns that could be blamed. Plus, with the Rams below average offensive line, it’s difficult to put too much blame on any skill player.

Jacksonville has had good teams over the years but they haven’t been able to replace Jimmy Smith since the wide receiver retired. If Holt can replace Smith, the Jags could emerge as a surprise Super Bowl contender in 2009.
