Toyota to Deal Hybrid Technology to GM?

On Monday, Yomiuri reported that Toyota is considering the possibility of giving its hybrid technology to General Motors. Yomiuri, which is one of the largest newspaper in the country of Japan, said that Toyota thought it was a good chance for the company to expand its hybrid technology to a company that is desperate to gain a footing in the hybrid automobile industry.

However, according to the Associated Press, Toyota has denied the reports made in the Yomiuri newspaper. While the Japanese automaker denied any such deal, they didn’t close the door on possibly working with GM in the future.

For General Motors, a deal with Toyota would make a lot of sense. The White House has made it clear that they want GM to start making fuel efficient automobiles and many within the company believe that such vehicles are the future of the industry. The gas guzzlers, which GM used to make by the thousands, appear to be a thing of the past.

Toyota definitely knows a thing or two about hybrid cars considering that they make the Toyota Prius — the best selling hybrid automobile on the planet.

Just because Toyota has the Prius does not make them like a god in hybrid technology. I can not believe how the media builds up this company. GM gets very little credit for the two-mode hybrid and in reality is a better system. Wake up American!!!

I’m not sure I understand the reasoning behind a decision for Toyota to give up it’s hybrid technology. Wouldn’t that threaten it’s market share? Maybe they feel like it would re energize consumer’s confidence eventually spilling over into their sales? Hmmm, I dunno.
