Trading “The Answer” Isn’t The Answer

The Denver Nuggets dealt Marcus Camby to the Clippers as if he weren’t the towering and worthy defensive threat that he is. And now, the Nuggets may be even a pinch closer to making another puzzling off-season move.

In order to save a few bucks, the Nuggets are rumored to be thinking about trading Allen Iverson, a.k.a. The Answer.

Um … What? Exsqueeze me, a baking powder?

You don’t trade one of the best point guards in the NBA … you build your team around him. Sure, sure … the Nuggets would most likely get a couple of first-round draft picks in return, but it is worth it? Do you trade out a veteran who’s still performing at the top of his game for a rookie or a younger player who still needs time to develop?

Seeing as how Camby is gone, the Nuggets should be thinking about adding key players … not dealing them.

Interesting take, but I think you are way off. With Camby gone, their average defense will now be terrible defense. Iverson can score and pass, but he is an inefficient shooter and taking 15-20 shots a game will stunt the growth of younger players. Get rid of the Answer. A couple of first-rounders from an average to bad team would be well worth it. Take the hit of one rebuilding year, get a nice draft pick or three, grab a top free agent in ‘09 and build around Anthony. That’s the direction I would try to go.

Good points. I’m just not sure how getting rid of a player like Iverson is worth it. It may take more than one year for Denver to rebuild Anthony may get frustrated and ask for a trade. It’s a tricky situation. I say keep the Answer and find some good defensive players to back him up.
