Triple Fiber Network, a network of servers that supplied bandwidth to online criminals, has been shut down by the United States federal government. Also known as 3FN, the network is accused of hosting everything from child porn to malicious computer viruses.
Pricewert LLC has been pointed at as the shell company behind the Triple Fiber Network. It reportedly was run out of the country of Belize and had ties to online criminals from around the globe.
In additional to actual servers, Triple Fiber Network also had control of thousands of personal computers that had been taken over by computer viruses. These controlled personal computers were used to provide even more bandwidth and to make it more difficult to track the source of their crimes.
While the feds believe this is a step in the right direction, many experts say that the criminals will likely be able to regroup and get back to their criminal activities.
