Twitpic Hacked – Britney Spears Not Dead

June 28, 2009 by Stephen Kersey

Twitpic, an extremely popular service that allows you to share photos on Twitter, admitted to being hacked over the weekend. The Twitpic hackers reportedly hacked into the accounts of a number of celebrities including Britney Spears.

Whoever decided to hack into Britney Spears’ account made an announcement that Britney Spears had died. Those reports, obviously, ended up being bogus.

Twitpic, which is available at Twitpic.com and is owned by Twitpic Inc., said they will immediately fix the situation and will implement a fix.

Although many believe that Twitpic is owned by Twitter, it’s actually a separate company located in South Carolina. Twitter is located in San Francisco, California.

Another celebrity that was saw their Twitpic account hacked was Ellen DeGeneres.

Twitpic was founded in 2008 by Noah Everett. While it can be used with other microblogging services, its primarily used in conjunction with Twitter.
