Twitter Taste Live is putting a unique twist on wine tasting. On Feb. 28, there will be a wine testing event featuring the interactive capabilities that Twitter has to offer.
The date was selected because it’s the 10th anniversary of OTBN, which stands for Open That Bottle Night. Started by a pair of writers for the Wall Street Journal, OTBN is an annual event that takes place in restaurants and homes across the United States with the hope that wine lovers will share and try new wine.
Registration for the online event is required and people can signup at twittertastelive.com, the Twitter Taste Live website. Once registered, the specific wine that will be featured during the event will be made available. Wilson Daniels, a wine importer, is a partner in the event.
During the Feb. 28 event, which will begin at 8:00 PM EST, the tasting can be followed live. Questions and comments will also be able to be posted through Twitter.
Overall, this is a very promising idea. Wine testing is usually relegated to gathers in real life. Bringing wine tasting online could open many new avenues for the industry. This idea also once again proves and legitimizes the power of a popular social networking and microblogging sites such as Twitter.
