Two of NCAA’s Most Legendary Coaches to be Memorialized

This coming weekend will be a decisive one in more ways than one. The game I’ll be watching, though, is the Ohio State – Michigan match up, which will decide which team gets to play in the Rose Bowl for the Big Ten. My money is on Ohio State, but can you blame me – my heart wants Michigan to win, especially if this turns out to be Michigan coach Lloyd Carr’s last season with the Wolverines.
In any case, the “smaller” story here is that two of NCAA’s greatest coaching legends will be memorialized in the game on Saturday. Who, you ask? If you don’t recognize these two names…well…are you really a college football fan? Saturday’s game will honor former coaches Woody Hayes and Bo Schembechler.
Woody is one of the most iconic coaches in the Buckeye’s history. He died in 1987, which is well before my time, but I’ve heard stories. Bo, on the other hand, just passed away in 2006, the day before the Ohio State – Michigan game that year. (Maybe he just couldn’t stand to see his Wolverines lose again…)
On Saturday, the coin flip will commemorate their rivalry on the field, with their faces serving as heads and tails. What a great way to remember two of the top coaches in Big Ten’s history!

Psh… Michigan lost to App State… and App State lost to Wofford and Georgia Southern. They made the Championship Division poll eligible, which is a waste of time. I don’t think Michigan should even be ranked. They had a weak schedule, playing teams like Notre Dame’s Failing Irish and Purdue. Their moment of glory was beating Penn State, who by some strange fluke were ranked #10 (after beating Fla Int’l, NDame, and Buffalo? Please…).
I don’t like Ohio State either. They will likely get mauled by a superior SEC team in whatever bowl they get into – and that’s saying a lot, considering I am an ACC guy with a grudge against SEC fans. They have a competitive division… what can I say?
