Tyson Gay, the defending world 100 and 200-metre champion, sent a message to his competitors yesterday – he’s in it to win it at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games. During the U.S. Olympic trials, he broke the record (9.79) for the 100-metre race with a time of 9.77 seconds.
Much has been made of the potential match-up between Gay and Jamaica’s Usain Bolt who, at the Jamaican National Championships, qualified for the Games with a time of 9.85. I hope each runner continues to train hard because everyone loves a good rivalry!
*Tyson Gay also ran the race in 9.68 but, because it was aided by strong win, the time was disallowed.
