UFC 94 was an amazing event. Normally I don’t buy very many UFC Pay-Per-Views, but after watching the weigh-ins I couldn’t resist. It was worth every cent.
Clay Guida worked over Nate Diaz pretty good for 2 rounds and in the third he took a few really good jabs but still kept coming at Diaz with everything he had and won by a split decision.
Karo Parisyan somehow got the judges to score in his favor after 3 rounds with Dong Hyun Kim. Karo kept losing his mouthpiece and didn’t get very many takedowns while Kim worked him over pretty good. I think a lot of people expected Kim to win, but alas Parisyan won by split decision after 3 rounds.
Stephan Bonnar had his work cut out for him against a UFC rookie. With only two fights under his belt, Jon Jones is establishing himself as a young fighter to be reckoned with. There was two times during this fight that Jones could have been called for illegal contact. Once he threw a knew to Bonnar head while Bonnar was not quite up off of the ground yet and another time he threw a spinning elbow that kind of caught Bonnar in the back of the head and sent him face-first to the mat. Jones worked Bonnar in all three rounds although he was looking a bit tired in the third as Bonnar looked as if he was catching his second wind. Jones won by unanimous decision.
Lyoto Machida lured Thiago Silva with his every move. Machida would let Silva stalk him and would stick and move, stick and move. The fight went to the ground briefly a couple of times and right before the end of the first round, Machida pushes Silva off of him and on to the floor. He follows in with a big, driving right (That knocked Silva out cold) and followed with a quick left right at the buzzer. The ref sees that Silva was knocked out and calls the fight at 4:59.
GSP started working B.J. Penn in the first round. Penn looked fresh in the first but by the second round GSP was clearly controlling the fight. The fight stayed on the ground a lot and GSP passed Penn’s guard to take side on so many counts. At the end of round 4, Penn’s corner is shown and he’s leaning up against the cage facing the outside of the ring. He’s being questioned about “Do you know where you are?” and someone says something about the doctor taking a look at Penn. Shortly after the Doc turns away out of the camera and you here someone say something about “stopping it” and Herb Dean stops the fight. Georges St. Pierre wins by TKO.
This was a great fight night. The next two Saturdays there are two great events as well. UFC Fight Night 17 and UFC 95 the following Saturday.
