UFC Fight For The Troops. Wow, what a night and what a great set of fights that took place. The main theme around last night’s fight was not so much about the fights, but about our (United States) Military Veterans and the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund is a non-profit organization that helps and supports wounded veterans of the war in Afghanistan and Iraq. Right now they are trying to build a facility and focus on veterans with Traumatic Brain Injuries. If you can spare a few dollars or more head on over to Fallen Heroes Fund and make a donation. Every little bit counts.
The fight started off with Matt Wiman from TUF 5 facing Jim Miller. Jim Miller won by unanimous decision after three rounds.
Tim Credeur fought Nate Loughran for two rounds. Tim Credeur won by TKO after Loughran could not continue.
Steve Cantwell won by submission in the first round by armbar over Razal Al-Hassan. Al-Hassan refused to tap and cantwell ended up bending his arm backwards. I don’t know if this just dislocates the elbow of if it actually breaks. I admire Al-Hassan for not tapping, but at the same time I think it was kind of courageously stupid. Cantwell was a little too proud of that afterwards. He looked like he was in a lot better shape than the last time I saw him fight and that was against Brian Stann, who I heard he was originally scheduled to fight.
Mike Swick made quick work of Jonathan Goulet by knockout in the first 33 seconds of round one.
Josh Coscheck also made quick work of Yoshiyuki Yoshida by knocking him out at 2:15 in the first round. Coscheck looked great tonight while working from his feet.
There was still some time after the main event so they showed a preliminary fight between Ben Saunders and Brandon Wolff. Saunders won by TKO at 1:49 in the first, devastating Wolff with an onslaught of knees.
Also during the event they showed Steve Bruno vs. Johnny Rees. The referee during this fight was an ass and he kept telling the guys to "work" and "Let’s go" when they were fighting. It was kind of a tie-up fight and I guess this ref wanted more "Action" like it was a boxing match. Bruno ended up submitting Reese in the second round with a rear naked choke.
Overall this was a great fight for a great cause. You can also head over the Fightforthetroops.com and bid on an auction that will benefit the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. The Auction consists of some great prizes, but you better have a deep pocket because the bid are getting higher and higher.
