Uh Oh …

I might have to eat some crow after all.

I said that we should all “let it go.” But how can we let it go when Brett Favre won’t. He’s got the itch to play, which I can understand. He said that he’s always tired in March, he’s always ready to take a break from football. But maybe a permanent break was too much. Maybe he just needed a few months out of the spotlight to regroup. Maybe he just needed to some time to realize why he played football in the first place … because it’s fun for him.

And now that he’s had the time to regroup, to rest, to remember why he loves to play, he’s thinking that maybe he’d like to come back. He’s thinking that maybe he made mistake.

The problem is, the Green Bay Packers have already moved on.

Packers GM, coach say team won’t release Favre despite request

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers aren’t about to let Brett Favre become a free agent. And while he’s free to return to Green Bay for another season, there’s no guarantee he’ll be the Packers’ starting quarterback if he does.

In an interview with The Associated Press Saturday, Packers general manager Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy said they don’t plan to grant Favre the release he is seeking from his contract and are committed to Aaron Rodgers as their starter.

“We’ve communicated that to Brett, that we have since moved forward,” Thompson told the AP on Saturday. “At the same time, we’ve never said that there couldn’t be some role that he might play here. But I would understand his point that he would want to play.” ~ ESPN.com

Favre as a backup? Never going to happen. Favre in another uniform? Unless the Packers release him, that isn’t going to happen either. A trade could be possible, if the Packers play their cards right. But this isn’t a win, win situation. And in the end, either the Packers or Favre is going to end up as the loser.

I see you smiling Fern! You were right. I was wrong. The question is now, where do you think Favre is going to end up??
