If you’re in the UK and you’d been hoping to supplement your income with a little game pirating on the side, maybe it’s time to rethink that career path. On Friday, the Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association led an investigation which culminated with a raid of a Surrey home. Thousands of video game copying devices were found and instantly seized for further examination by forensic specialists.
At the house investigators discovered a fully operational ‘production line’ along with a fully detailed trading history for the business. Records found at the property revealed evidence of trading worth £hundreds of thousands. A simultaneous raid at a second business premises was carried out by the Royal Borough of Kingston-upon-Thames Trading Standards, but the premises were found to be empty.
If you’ve already begun sailing the seas of illegal pirating, maybe it’s time to retire. You could face an unlimited fine and up to ten years in prison. Ouch.
