Ultralight Migrates with the Monarchs

September 21, 2005 by admin

A team of pilots from Canada, Mexico and the United States are migrating with tens of millions of Monarch butterflies in a specially painted two-seater ultralight called Papalotzin (Aztec for “little butterfly”). Monarchs flitter from Canada to Mexico and back each year, and lay their eggs in the United States during their annual 3,500-mile journey. The pilots will both track and study the insects, and also report on the Monarch’s habitat destruction, urging governments and businesses to help protect these endangered butterflies. Plus, it sounds like a lot of fun flying!
