When I turned on the TV early this morning and saw this, the sports talking heads were almost proclaiming the Tar Heels season to be over before it started.
And this from the Associated Press.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP)—North Carolina star Tyler Hansbrough is out of practice indefinitely with a stress reaction condition in his right shin.
The reigning Associated Press player of the year did not practice Thursday. Instead, team spokesman Steve Kirschner says he underwent an MRI that revealed the stress reaction. Kirschner says the injury could lead to a stress fracture if not properly treated.
The school has issued a statement saying there is no timetable for his return and no further information on the injury was available.
Coach Roy Williams says he will have no comment until Friday after he meets with Hansbrough and the medical staff.
Hansbrough is the first AP player of the year to return to school since 1991.
I guess when you’re name the number one team in the nation in the first poll of the season by the ESPN/USA Today coaches’ poll, it does make you want to push the panic button.
We’ll just have to wait and see and hope for the best for Hansbrough.
