Up on Top – Pixar’s “Up” Debuts at $68M

Following its opening weekend, Pixar has to be happy with how “Up” performed. In the company’s third best performance, “Up” made approximately $68 million. The only Pixar movies with a better opening weekend were “The Incredibles” and “Finding Nemo”.
Pixar has now made ten movies and all ten movies have been a hit — both in terms of money and with critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, “Up” scores a 98%. Rotten Tomatoes calls is heartfelt, hilarious and exciting. Out of their 153 reviews, 150 were positive.
Overall, the movie industry in the United States is much healthier than it was this year. Revenue is up nearly 15% compared to this time last year. This could be a sign that the national economic slowdown is coming to an end.
The previous nine Pixar movies were Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouill and WALL-E. The next Pixar movie that is expected to hit theatres is Toy Story 3, which has a scheduled release date of June of 2010.
