In recent days, an outbreak of swine flu in Mexico has people around the world worried about the safety of pork products. According to reports out of Mexico, more than 1,000 have become sick and around 90 people have died. However, the National Pork Board says that their pork products are safe now and will continue to be safe in the future.

Many experts in the medical community insist that the pork products are safe as long as they are properly cooked. Additionally, the swine flu outbreak is believed to be from person-to-person contact and not due to food contamination.

Despite that information and assurances from the National Pork Board, countries from around the world are starting to become worried. For example, South Korea has started to check its pork imports more closely and Russia has banned pork products that originate from Texas, Kansas, California and Mexico.

Although the deaths from swine flu have been limited to Mexico, the flu has been found in the United States in a number of states including Texas, California, Ohio and New York.
