US Women’s Soccer Team Wins Gold Medal

The United States women’s soccer team has clinched the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. They took home the top prize after defeating Brazil which must have felt like a sweet redemption for the Americans who were soundly beaten (4-0) by the South American team at the World Cup last fall.
The game couldn’t have been closer. Carli Lloyd (shown here in an earlier match this year) scored the winning goal six minutes into overtime to give the Americans the 1-0 victory.
