USA Gymnastics’ Pride, Shawn Johnson

Meet Shawn Johnson of the USA Gymnastics Team, who also happens to be an Olympic hopeful.
Johnson is a 15 year-old gymnast who trains under coaches Liang Qiao (Chow) and Liwen Zhuang (Li) in West Des Moines, Iowa at Chow’s Gymnastics.
Shawn Johnson’s Gymnastics Career and Achievements
Comfortably tucked under her belt are her wins during the 2007 American Cup (all around champion), 2007 Pan American Games (all around champion), and the 2007 National Championships. Of course, she adds her latest win during the recently concluded 2007 World Championships held in Stuttgart, Germany.
Memorable moments in Shawn’s gymnastics career have been Level 9 balance beam champion, Level 10 Iowa’s Gymnast of the year, Level 10 balance beam champion and making the J.O. National team, and qualifying to Junior International Elite status on her first attempt. (Source)
Clearly, this is one young woman everyone should keep an eye on this coming 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Hey Shawn! I love your performances so much! I was a gymnast for 7 years and I was in level 7 but then I just quit this past year. It was too much on my body! Then I look at you, WOW! I saw your commercial last night that said “Why am I in the olympics, because I’m not afraid to fall.” I was like wow, I guess I was!! Anyways, GOOD LUCK in Bejing!! I’m rooting for you! It’s 12:56A.M. in the USA and I just finished watching you preform. You did great. You had an amazing landing off the bars. I have been watching all of the Olympic events. I watched you go through all of the events and you were wonderfull. I’d say you seem like one of the nicest compettetors, and that means a whole lot. I do Jiu Jitsu and kickboxing and that keeps me in shape and strong, but I couldn’t even attempt the things you do, lol. While your’e doing gymnastics you keep such great form it’s just amazing. I’d also like to say you are such a beautifull girl. You did amazing tonight and in all of the other events. I don’t know if Shawn will actually ever see this posting or not. Nonetheless, I just finished watching the Olympic all-arounds, and I just have to say that I was heartbroken Shawn didn’t win gold. I’m glad “Nasty” Nastia picked up a gold for the U.S., even if she isn’t really an American – she’s a transplanted Ruskie, and I’m okay with that, but I really, really wanted to see Shawn come away with the gold. I wonder if she’ll do it again in four years!? Hmmm…

“Haven’t you seen enough of the Olympics?” Jack wheeled around on his heel.
“Oh?” “What about you?” “Weren’t the 2004 Olympics good enough, Chesapeake?” Chesapeake blinked.
“So?” Jack shrugged and sat down, fiddling with his pen.
“So….um..why watch them now?” Chesapeake raised his eyebrows.
“And?” “Your point is?” Jack sat down and turned on the TV, and the Olymics happen to be on. Chesapeake pushed Jack off of his chair and sat down on his own chair and fast forwarded through swimming, tennis; everything, and then stopped at Gymnastics.
“Look.” he tapped the screen with his index fingernail and Jack eyed the screen with awe, with Chesapeake grinning behind him.
“So what’s your plan now?” Chesapeake’s grin disappeared.
“What?” “What plan?” Jack tapped the screen again.
“Do you have tickets?” Chesapeake shook his head. Jack flashed a few.
“We’re going to the Olympics,”

Chesapeake and Jack stepped off the plane and looked around Beijing. Jack grinned.
“You’re 28, aren’t you?” “Why not compete?” Chesapeake held back his laughter.
“Me?” Jack nodded and shrugged. Chesaeake didn’t reply to that, but started to walk around, and eventually, they got to the gymnastics building. They got the best seat (to them), and they waited. and waited. and waited. Chesapeake looked around for the details.
“Okay, Jack. What’d you drag me half-way across the world for?” Jack didn’t reply, but eyed the same details of Beijing’s Olympics. Chesapeake held his breath, and then let it out in a large sigh. Rolling his eyes, he turned his eyes toward Jack.
“You dragged me here all the way to just see Shawn Johnson, didnt you?” Jack narrowed his eyes and replied defensivly,
“Why not?” Chesapeake smiled and looked back down at the un-even bars. The Olympics were getting started for the second week…and no American; nobody, in fact, was going to leave without the Gold, but only onewould actually leave with it…
I watched your performance last night at the Olympics and just had to let you know how awesome I think you are. The judges were not fair to you, but you beat the Chinese anyway. I was tearing up with pride as you walked off the floor with that beautiful smile. You are beautiful and talented and I can’t wait to see you get the gold in 2012. You are awesome.

Hey Shawn,
I just wanted to congatulate you and Team USA (That never gets old saying that one!) on a spectacular olympic games performance. I never had a chance to watch any of you girls compete prior to the Beijing games for lack of any major television promotional commercials on coverage of things like the world championships, but nonetheless, I was largely impressed with the kind of pure talent you and the others possessed. I was born on an olympic year (The Los Angeles games in ‘84) but not until after the games were finished but I can pretty much remember everything since Seoul in ‘88 and you and the other girls are as good or better than any of those I can remember watching compete. One final thought and I will post this message I think that in 4 years everybody competing in London better watch out for you because you are gonna kick butt and take names like never before! Best of luck in the future, and maybe I’ll bump into you one of these days since I live a state away in Illinois!
