Vacation!! Your Accountability to Laugh

Do you know how many things happen over the course of a day that can just make you angry? Did you know the same things that happen during the course of a regular work day, can happen when you are on vacation? Of course you know. I am sure of it! But do you realize we get to choose our response to what happens to us? The
good, the bad and the ugly. I have completed day 4 of this vacation of mine and stuff is happening, but I choose joy and laughter. I don’t like everything that happened to me today, but I didn’t let it disrupt my vacation mode. Whew!
The bible says, “Laughter doeth well like medicine.” Can you laugh at your self or at others for that matter? I don’t know how many times I have made that recommendation to ladies I coach, mentor or counsel. Laughing doesn’t mean you enjoyed the issue, or situation, it’s just a choice to laugh, rather than saying something rude or doing something that you will regret. Laughter? Hmm, what about this word while on vacation?
Here’s my teachable moment for the day – Laughter changes you and the people around you. Laughter is not something that can be held back. At least not a good belly laugh. Sometimes, just throwing your head back and opening your mouth and laughing out loud can shift the atmosphere around you. On vacation, what’s the point in being angry at the nutty people around you, even if it includes family. Why not just choose to laugh at the goofy things that happen to you and others. I am not talking about being cruel. I am not talking about laughing when someone is in real pain. I am talking about laughing when the waitress is having a bad day and you get to pay the price with their poor service. I am talking about looking for a place to sit at a conference and no one is willing to move over to let you sit next to them. That happened to me today. Guess what I did? I sat on the floor. I wasn’t down there a minute when someone, a nice lady, said, why don’t you come and sit next to me. And she scooted over. Every other person who told me “no” saw it. Guess what? They missed meeting a very interesting person. I could have done a myriad of things, but I chose to laugh at the situation and I enjoyed my day anyway!
Laughter doeth well like a medicine, whether you are on vacation or not. I just wanted to remind you of your accountability to laugh. Find something tomorrow and just before you choose to pull anger off the shelf, or just before pulling that rude comment out of your back pocket, push all of the negative responses aside and choose to laugh. I betcha you will have a much better day after you make that choice and when the next nutty thing happens, you get to choose all over again. Go ahead, throw your head back and let out a good hoot!! Enjoy your day!!
