As far as i know, people are mainly bummed about the whistler sea to sky road renovations. Do Olympics imply an open air stadium? Because as far as I know, Vancouver doesn’t have any. questions. questions.
Brem,
I do not believe that an open air stadium is a requirement as much as it may just be an Olympic tradition. Here is the information I found regarding Vancouver’s stadium and opening ceremonies location:
BC Place Stadium
The Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and the Opening Ceremony for the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games will be held in BC Place Stadium in downtown Vancouver. This will also be the venue for nightly medals presentations and cultural performances during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
Located on the waterfront in downtown Vancouver, BC Place Stadium covers four hectares and has the largest air-supported stadium roof in North America.
The BC Place Stadium will receive general upgrades, including accessibility enhancements prior to the Olympic Games in 2010. Preliminary venue preparation will take place starting in August 2009 with cable installation and related activities scheduled around existing building uses.

Vancouver’s Soccer Club, the Whitecaps, are in the process of trying to build a new stadium downtown with their own money. If it is built the buzz here in Vancouver is that the Daily metal ceremonies and entertainment will move out of BC place to this new outdoor stadium. The opening and closing ceremonies will not change, but the less bc place is used the better. More information about the new stadium can be found at http://whitecapsnewstadium.com/home.cfm
