American Idol winner Carrie Underwood will be singing the national anthem for Game 3 of the World Series in Colorado tonight. Conveniently enough, we have something to say about that. Oh, we know you’re surprised. Go ahead, pick up your jaw off the floor discreetly. We won’t look.
Underwood as the songbird adds to the head-scratching irony of national anthem decisions these days. First we had Josh Beckett’s ex singing in Cleveland. Oh, and it happened to be on the night he was pitching and the Sox faced elimination.
Now we have Underwood, who is the world titleholder—is it me, or do you have trouble believing the candidates actually spanned the entire globe?—for “sexiest vegetarian.” (I’m jealous. I so might have taken the crown, if only I were . . . a vegetarian. Ahem, moving on.) The squint-eyed “huh?” comes upon learning that the owners of the Colorado Rockies made their shekels in the beef industry.
Maybe Underwood’s jaunt to the Mile-High City is her way of making peace with sports. After all, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo just gave her the heave-ho. The cause of their split, according to Underwood, was Romo’s preference for the huddle over the cuddle. Maybe someone should tell that to Romo’s rumored new squeeze, One Tree Hill star Sophia Bush. In the meantime, we wouldn’t blame Carrie Underwood and Reggie Bush cast-off Kim Kardashian if they didn’t tune into Monday Night Football anymore.
