Venus and Serena, Roger and Rafa, and Hulk Hogan and Brooke

Venus and Serena Williams will meet in the women’s final at Wimbledon tomorrow. We’ll be en route to SoHo and will miss the match, but we’re guessing that the losing Williams sister is far more likely to credit her opponent than we’re accustomed to seeing from the talented duo.
Our beloved, way-way-up-on-a-pedestal-for-us Roger Federer will meet Rafael Nadal in the men’s final at Wimbledon on Sunday. Rafa’s a great kid but we just heart Roger so darn much we’ll probably head to brunch early if it looks like the Swiss wunderkind isn’t going to nail his sixth win.
And since we’re on the topic of great pairings, supposed ex-wife stalker Hulk Hogan and his MAXIM-ized daughter Brooke make for great blog foddah, as you might have noticed. Want to hear us snark away on this father-daughter tabloid twosome? Check out our brief audio clips along with tidbits from other sports writers and bloggers at Speeding Bullet Network.

You mean like how Serena said that Zhang played really well? Or how Serena credited Dementieva with playing tough?
The Williams sisters have gotten older and mellowed a bit. And don’t forget how Venus wrote the op-ed piece so that the women’s Wimby champ would get paid as much as the men’s. First time it happened? 2007. Give them some credit!
Whoops, meant Venus & Dementieva.
No one ever said they don’t credit an opponent after a win. It’s after a loss that they (particularly Serena) will make excuses or blame themselves without actually admitting that so-and-so played better than them and deserved to win. (You *might* see a backhanded compliment in such situations).
Roger Federer got thrashed by Rafa in the French Open but wasn’t exactly thin on praise for his rival.
I’m not the first and won’t be the last to make this observation about the Williams sisters.
So I guess you noticed that Serena didn’t give Venus credit either, then? I mean, if she’ll do that to her sister…it’s kind of obvious that Serena is spoiled. Even her mother says so!
Personally, I see Venus as more gracious–even after losses.
You said it! No kidding about Serena’s ‘tude and her mom even saying so . . . http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tennis/wimbledon08/columns/story?columnist=harwitt_sandra&id=3475225
I was rooting for Venus ’cause she is the more gracious of the two, for sure.
