It's after a loss that they (particularly Serena) will make excuses or blame themselves without actually admitting that so-and-so played better than them and deserved to win. (You *might* see a backhanded compliment in such situations). Roger Federer got thrashed by Rafa in the French Open but wasn't exactly thin on praise for his rival.
