Viacom CEO Wants More DRM, Disses Net Neutrality

Evil Dauman

Oh, wow. I don’t want to portray Viacom as a caricature of all mass media evil, but it seems that’s all they want to be. At an antipiracy summit held by the US Chamber of Commerce, Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman throws his support behind DRM and his opposition against net neutrality.

You will recall these guys are also suing YouTube for — say it in a Dr. Evil voice, everyone — one BILLION dollars! I don’t know what business strategy involves embodying everything your customers hate, but that seems to be the strategy Viacom’s pursuing. See, this is the sort of caricature you get when a guy from the legal department runs a media company.
