This is a very good, short video I found at US News and World Report on how you can recession proof your career. I want emphasize that you must make yourself recession proof. The video makes two very good suggestions. The first is to start a business. The second is to get a government job. Both are excellent suggestions.

Don’t assume you are safe if you work in one of these industries. Ensure that you do what it takes to remain secure in your job. Keep track of your accomplishments. Add value by being a star performer, a problem solver that helps your organization remain profitable. Recession is a real possibility if not a reality for us. If you are not working and you need a job, consider getting a government job. There is definitely some job security if you can get your foot in the door.
If you are working, this may not be the best time to make a job change. Evaluate your performance. If you have been slacking, make the adjustment and keep your job through this season we are currently living in.
