Vince Young and the Titans are in big trouble

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Vince Young looks and then realizes there are no receivers on the roster

The Tennessee Titans pick Vince and he sort of languishes on the bench. Finally he gets his shot and, man, does he take advantage of his opportunity.

Overnight the Titans are winning these last minute games and Vince is a hero.

The fans are excited out of their minds, right? You bet they are.

Management takes notice and decides to make this the best off season ever. Next year we will kick some butt, they say. Unfortunately…

It’s been nothing short of a disastrous off-season for Tennessee. The Pacman Jones incident has been front page news since February and the player’s become the poster boy for all things wrong with the league. He didn’t do himself any favors reportedly being spotted in a gentlemen’s club the night before a meeting with Commissioner Goodell. His year-long suspension hurts the Titans more than just from a publicity standpoint — he was their best defensive player in ‘06. source

Had that been all, then the GM could have pulled off some deals and everything would have looked great… But that was not all.

The Titans also lost their top receiver and running back this off-season, with Drew Bennett signing on with St. Louis and Travis Henry inking a deal with Denver. The Henry situation was a curious one, to say the least. After a 1,500-yard season in which he, at times, carried the team on his back — the Titans did not look to re-sign the veteran back out of Tennessee.

Some people even think the Madden Curse is hurting the Titans.

Very Important Message – Squibster live, sound interesting? (this is where you say yes!) Then go to suicide fan.com and listen to Mike Keating and Jim Edwards (that is me) talking NBA and LeBron James.

The Pacman issue hurt the Titans so bad that character became the number one issue for the team in the 2007 NFL draft.

“I’ve never been in trouble,” said Michael Griffin, a safety from the University of Texas selected by the Titans in the first round. “I’ve never tried drugs. I’ve never done any of that. I don’t drink alcohol — anything of that nature. I have good character and I’m not going to bring any problems to the table.” source

Even the local Tennessean.com is a little upset. David Climer writes…

NO DAZZLE. Mike Reinfeldt’s initial draft as Titans general manager lacked any real buzz. Granted, it’s tough to hit a home run with the 19th pick, but we expected something more. source

In fact, Climer was not too happy about the lack of trades, or packaging draft picks for trades, or going free agents, or even switching the brand of ketchup on the hot dogs. In other words, Do Something!

After losing their best wide receiver they failed to pick up Steve Smith from USC, when he was still on the draft board.

Tennessee, it turns out, is a team worse than it was in January.

NFL Football Fan Question How can the Titans stomach all this? Especially not switching the ketchup brands. A sure sign of a loser.

As always, any NFL Football related comments are welcome.
