Vista backdoor? Over my dead body!

March 4, 2006 by admin

After the speculation of Vista getting a backdoor, it now seems that a company representative said in a statement sent via e-mail: “Microsoft has not and will not put ‘backdoors’ into Windows“. Next to that Niels Ferguson, a developer and cryptographer at Microsoft, wrote on a corporate blog: “The suggestion is that we are working with governments to create a back door so that they can always access BitLocker-encrypted data… Over my dead body“. He wrote this in his post titled “Back-door nonsense.” And next to that he claimed he wouldn’t find anybody on this team willing to implement and test the back door…

From Windows 95 to at least Windows 2000 the NSA had keys embedded in the OS: http://www.msversus.org/node/65

The denied it before. They’re certainly willing to do it again for their biggest customer. Their PR campaigns are just words.

In the article, the British Government ADMITS they’re in talks with Microsoft about putting in a backdoor. Who are we supposed to believe?

Too bad Windows isn’t open-source, I’d check the code myself and tell you who’s lying. Since it’s not, we have to TRUST Microsoft has our best interests at heart. I HOPE they’re telling the truth and the British Home Office is lying in order to…. I dunno, why would they lie about this?

Very unpleasant possibility. And sadly, it’s very possible that it’s true. We can’t verify it ourselves without the source code.

  3. A lot of Vista will be open source. Does not reall matter however, the place a backdoor would make sense is in the BIOS, which is not Microsoft code.

Windows CE 6.0 Kernal is 100% open source.
