Visual Studio 2008 "Orcas" Closer to Completion

I downloaded and tried the newest version of Visual Web Developer Express “Orcas” Edition awhile back and found too many bugs for me to rely on it very much at all. I beta test to the extreme, no test environment, no safety ropes, just install it and see if it works until it breaks something. There’s some kind of comment in there about “danger” being my middle name, or maybe “stupid”.
Microsoft is getting closer to the final release of Visual Studio 2008 and with their Beta2 scheduled for release this week.
Perhaps more interesting though is that Microsoft’s venture into the Ruby phenomenon will also be available soon. Dubbed “IronRuby”, the application is in pre-alpha status. I don’t even mess with alpha status for the most part, so I’ll be waiting a bit longer to play around with that one.

Jason, what sort of bugs are you seeing that make it unreliable?
John, it’s been too long now I can’t even remember the details. I’ll tell you also that some of it was probably just not being familiar enough with the Visual Web Developer Express software as a whole. However, there was stuff that would happen that just didn’t make sense to me, and it didn’t happen with the existing version. I was in the middle of a project and really didn’t have the time to troubleshoot and spend much time at all looking into oddities I didn’t understand. I was still trying to understand the basics. One thing I liked was that it seemed handled CSS styling much better, so I miss that.
I see. Thakns for letting me know. Well, Beta 2 is available now. If you run into any issues or have any questions, please feel free to email me at johndund at microsoft dot com. I’m definitely interested in your feedback.
Thanks John. When I finish this current project I may try the update again. I’m curious what your opinion is of Microsoft Expression and VWDE? Is one better than the other? Is one targeted at a different user group? Can I not to stuff on one I can with the other?
