Want to Save Money on Gas? Pay With Cash

An increasing trend across the country is for gas stations to charge less for cash. If you are willing to pay with cash, you might be able to save money on gas. This is because many gas stations are hoping to help their profit margins by avoiding the transaction fees levied by credit card companies.

Other gas stations are adding a surcharge onto credit card purchases in order to accomplish the same thing. Consumerism Commentary writes about this practice:

This is apparently not against the law in any state. Neither is it against the contract with the credit card issuers because the merchants can call this price difference a “cash discount” even though everyone knows it’s a credit surcharge.

Another way that some gas stations are hoping to lure customers include offering free beverages or other items when customers pay in cash.
