Do you watch TV? Do you pay attention to top shows, bad shows, reality, news, and everything else up and down the dial? Do you have opinions about what’s on, what’s been on, what should be on, what should be taken off? Do you talk about the competitors on Dancing With The Stars as if they’re family? Is Lauren Conrad like a sister to you? Do you give a rat’s a– whether you’re smarter than a 5th Grader? Do you love Regis but hate Kelly or vice versa? Do you take flight with the Conchords? Do you think Kyra Sedgwick is pretty? Do you think The Hills is fake? Is there such a thing as real reality? Does any of this stuff matter to you? If it does, then you should be writing for our new TV-themed blog.
We’re building the Internet’s premiere TV blog, a place where you can be an influencer, where your voice will matter, where you can start a story, add to a story, and contribute news and information. Write about what you’re watching. Write about what people you know are watching. Write long or short — just write. And hey, send us pictures of yourself as you watch. We want to see that too. We’ll make it easy for you to submit. Here are the facts, good and bad: You’re writing for glory, attention, and to add to the joyous clamor of the blogosphere. There isn’t any payment This is about adding your voice to a community. Your participation will help us grow, and as we grow, you’re byline will gain in significance, too.

* Location: telecommute
* Compensation: none — it’s all about enthusiasm and obsession
* Telecommuting is ok.
* This is a part-time job.

Is anyone else under the impression that telecommute indicates a job, and a job indicates one is making money? This is just so ass I don’t even know where to start. Byline Schmyline. It’s one thing to grow a community, it’s another thing to do it at the expense of others.

I mean, I participate in forums. I know all about social networking, but really this is going a little too far. You’re not just asking someone to put up a cutesy profile and pick an idiotic theme. You’re asking people to blog on a daily basis so you can benefit and profit. That’s ass on so many levels. But let’s get beyond the assery of the telecommuting without being paid thing. Who the eff is going to want to look at a bunch of pictures of a bunch of people watching television? I enjoy a bit of couch time, and indeed I’m known for watching bad television for hours at a time, but that doesn’t mean I want to watch other losers watch television, if you know what I mean.

And finally, I wish people would stop using the word “freelance” when looking for free labor. Freelance doesn’t mean free. You’re looking for volunteers…or suckers.

    The creeping misuse of “freelance” is a lot like subsidy publishing companies calling themselves “self-publishing” companies. Not the same thing and a bastardization of the word.

    You’ve gotta stop the new use of “freelance” before it takes over the world like a virus!

  3. Laurie says:

    Not to mention the new use of the word “gig.” ;-)

    Anyone’s who’s criticized for asking people to work for free/peanuts invariably counters with “but I put the ad in the GIGS section, which means it’s unpaid/at best peanuts-paying!”

    No, it means you were too cheap to fork over the 25 bucks to place it in the Jobs section. And “gig” does NOT mean “unpaid.” It means either a one-off, temporary, contract or long-term PAID assignment that is not a regular salaried position.

    Anything for no pay should be in the VOLUNTEERS section. Not in Jobs or Gigs.

    And what should happen is these people oughta get sent numerous by reputable writers heckling them. As well as be flagged off Craigslist.

  5. Star says:

    Another meaning of gig–a fatal hook in the neck.
