Warne to quit after Ashes?

shane warne retiresRumour has it that Australian legend Shane Warne is set to quit his International career after the Ashes. He has already stopped playing one day cricket to prolong his Test shelf-life but now it seems he’s going to stop Test cricket as well. He will hold a press conference tomorrow is said to confirm his decision. And despite claims to the contrary, certain pundits are already referring to Warne in the past tense. Rumours are also circulating that McGrath will do the same. Should such a thing happen, cricket will see two of its greatest ever bowlers step down.

I’d be surprised to hear the news, from either man, since despite all the gossip that they’re old and tired, neither bowler has really shown much evidence of that in this series. But if, sorry, when, Warne takes his 700th test wicket, to become the first bowler to ever take 700 test wickets, that might signal that he can’t go much better. The only thing that will stop him is the threat of Murali just 25 wickets behind him.
