Wayne Turmel: December 2007 Golden Slacker Winner

December 31, 2007 by Phil Gerbyshak

This month I am pleased to present the Golden Slacker award to Wayne Turmel, host of the Cranky Middle Manager show .

For those not familiar with the show, here’s the premise of the Cranky Middle Manager:

“The Cranky Middle Manager Show is an irreverent but insightful look at the world of middle management. Host Wayne Turmel vents, offers humorous commentary and talks to the smartest people in the field about management techniques, career strategies and just keeping it together day after day. If you ever feel stuck between the idiots that make the decisions and the morons who won’t do as they’re told, this is the show for you.”

Sounds like a great fit for Slacker Managers like you and me!Wayne Turmel Goes Hawaiian

So why Wayne?

First, he’s got a great sense of humor in his podcasts. Instead of the same old boring management stuff about how to put your pencils in order, Wayne pokes fun of the traditional “middle managers” and exhorts you to “not let the weasels get you down.” If you feel like you’re stuck in a cubicle and want some audio Dilbert, Wayne offers a bit of that.

Next, he brings us some of the smartest management thinkers on the planet. Folks like all 3 of our previous Golden Slacker winners, Rosa Say, Lisa Haneberg, and Marshall Goldsmith, twice.

Last but not least, he also has started his own company called Great Web Meetings, and shares some excellent innovative manager links, like this one on the Top 50 Thinkers, and this one about the Best Biz Books of 2007.

5 other things I encourage you to check out from my favorite Cranky Middle Manager:

  1. Interview with Erika Andersen, author of Growing Great Employees
  2. Interview with Bob Prosen, author of Kiss Theory Goodbye
  3. Interview with Steve Roesler, author of All Things Workplace
  4. Interview with Steve Farber, author of Radical Leap and Radical Edge, and coming out with a NEW book sometime in 2008!
  5. Pick up a copy of Wayne’s excellent ebook The 4 Disciplines of Highly Effective, Leadership Exhibiting, Project Nailing, Cheese Moving Managers, which is an easy and insightful read

Wayne Turmel - December 2007 Golden Slacker WinnerSeriously, Wayne isn’t as cranky as he makes out to be, but he IS someone who has earned this Golden Slacker for his irreverent wit, insightful interviews, and unique insights into middle managers.

Thanks Wayne, for all you do, this Golden Slacker’s for YOU!
