Ways to Write for Peace

The evolving theory behind Writing for Peace might be summed up with the saying the pen is mightier than the sword (or as Thomas Jefferson, who in 1796 sent a letter to Thomas Paine in which he wrote: “Go on doing with your pen what in other times was done with the sword.“)

The way I mean it, Writing for Peace is not anti-war, or anti-anything. Writing for Peace means finding peace inside ourselves and writing from that place. Some possible venues come to mind:

  • Letters to the editor that express ideas of peace.
  • Any article in any publication that explores non-violent communication skills.
  • Book reviews of books that promote internal peace as a way to move to world peace.
  • Any writing that explores the seeming difference between people and shows how, under those differences, we all want the same things – enough to eat, home, family, etc.
  • Blogging for peace, from a place of peace. (One Day I Lost It is an example I wrote yesterday.)

This is such a short list! Its brevity reflects the newness of my own understanding – the fact that, with you, I’m exploring the idea of writing for peace.

This blog is about freelance writing. I have another blog, When Grandmother Speaks, where I’m exploring all the ideas about finding internal peace and taking it to the streets I can find.

If you’d like to join me in Writing for Peace, “>send me an email. We’ve got some sort of group growing – let’s explore together where it will take us.

Write well and often.
