We All Need a Jump-Start Sometimes…

Freelance writing isn’t always easy.

As a freelancer, we live by deadlines and payments. At least, I do much of the time…and I suspect that many writers are the say way. You need to get x number of articles/pages/posts/whatever done by such-and-such a date so that you’ll be paid x number of dollars. Grind, grind, grind. Repeat. It can be really easy to suddenly ask yourself, “Where has the month gone?” as you’re writing out your rent or mortgage check once again.

And where has it gone? Another day, another dollar, but another week or month or year has gone by and once again, that novel is on your hard drive, unfinished. Most of us writers have some aspiration to write a novel or play or creative non-fiction, and the sad fact is that most of us just never get around to doing it. Life just gets in the way.

We all need a jump-start sometimes. Consider this yours. Today, I’m challenging you to break out that old file and write some new pages. Or open up a blank Word document and start something completely new.

Don’t let freelance writing get in the way of your creative writing. I know that people aren’t paying you to write creatively (yet), but if you don’t work at it, they never will.
