I think there's a really unfortunate misconception in the US that if you don't go to college, you'll never make anything of yourself. That's just stupid. There are so many meaningful jobs out there that don't require so-called higher education, and there is nothing wrong with that. Some of the smartest people I know are folks who didn't go any further than high school in their education.
