Weak Conference Links

Today, Olin Buchanan at ESPN posted a really interesting question: Which conference is really the BCS weak link? His article refers to the ACC and Big East, who’s teams have struggled to compare to those in the Pac-10, SEC, Big 12, and Big Ten.
But let’s not forget that there are quite a few other Div-I college football conferences:
- Conference USA
- Mid-American Conference
- Mountain west Conference
- Sun Belt Conference
- Western Athletic conference
The mid-major schools in these conferences, along with independents, don’t get automatic bids into the BCS bowls because they’re historically weaker. And really, that is only perpetuating the weakness of these conferences. No one good enough to play for USC or OSU wants to play for a tam where they’ll have to fight to get noticed by NFL scouts.
Would a playoff system help strengthen there conferences? Or, are they doomed into a never-ending mediocre cycle? Leave a comment telling us what you think!
