Web 2.0 – Create Something Useful, Please

I’ve seen this request a lot in the last month, aimed at all those Web 2.0 companies that launch an online service that is in fact only a single function, or a rip-off of an existing, perfectly functional, service.

The good thing about the flurry of online innovation is that any great idea can float to the top.

The bad thing is the huge amount of flotsam and jetsam floating around , serving no useful purpose.

Facebook Top 10 AppsJosh Catone of Read/Write Web offers up his Top 10 Facebook Apps- Utility, based on usefulness.

All I can say is, if Price Tracker and My RSS are the most useful add-ons for Facebook, it’s a sad day for Facebook fans.

  1. Yes, FaceBook the plug-in home of every half baked web 2.0 app. I am less than fanatic about FaceBook. It’s a great contact manager, a step above LinkedIn for sure. But the fanaticism surround this social network seems overblown to me. $.02. Good post, Eric.
