Here are the official result for tonight WEC 38 event on Versus. The lightweight title is on the line as Jamie Varner defends his title against the undefeated Donald Cerrone. Also we see Jens Pulver try not to lose three in a row and Urijah Faber get back on track after his first loss in the WEC and losing his title to Mike Brown. Will Faber/Pulver go a full three rounds or will it end much earlier that the first fight?

Jose Aldo Vs Rolando Perez

Both fighters have a great offense and defense, trading jabs and leg kicks going in to the first round. Rolando goes in low with a left jab and Aldo riases his right knee and catches Perez in the left side of his face. Perez falls backwards to the floor and Aldo jumps on it and starts laying down the punches, left and right. Ref jumps in to stop the fights. Jose Aldo defeats Rolando Perez via TKO (Strikes) in Round 1 at 4:15

 Mike Campbell Vs Danillo Villefort

To start the round, Mike Campbell had a pretty good offense on his feet and some pretty good defense against Villefort’s Jiu-Jitsu. He tries to keep the fight standing but gets caught on his belly in a full mount while Villefort scored short punches to the side of his head. Campbell continues to lay there, covering his head while Ref. Josh Rosenthal tells him that he needs to do something or he’ll stop the fight. Campbell continues to cover with no attempt to move. Rosenthal stops the fight and Danillo Villefort wins by TKO Strikes in round 1 at 3:53

Frank Gomez Vs.Scott Jorgensen (Bantamwieght Swing Bout)

This fight was televised from an earlier taping as the arena was pretty empty. Scott Jorgenson wins in round 1 by submission with a guillotine choke at 1:09.

Urijah Faber Vs Jens Pulver

Fight start off with both guys working each other with short, non-effective punches. Pulver is staying on Faber but Faber ends the fight quickly with a hard body shot to Pulver’s rib/liver area, hurting him. Faber see’s that he’s hurt and goes in to finish the fight by bringing him to the ground and getting him in a tight guillotine choke. No visible tap (replay shows the tap), the ref stops the fight. Faber defeats Pulver at 1:34 of round 1.

After the fight Jens is asked whether he is still relevant in this sport after losing 3 fights in a row. Jens replied that he’s wondering that, himself. He starts to break down (almost cry) a bit, says he’s feeling like a really old 34 year old man, but says he’s not finished.

Oh yeah,…and Faber says he wants his belt back.

Jamie Varner Vs. Donald Cerrone (Lightweight Title Bout)

Both fighters kind of feel each other out to start the round. Varner seems to be more of the aggressor. Varner lands a left that slightly stuns Cerrone. Varner takes Cerrone to the ground and Cerrone is kind of working a leg triangle but soon lets it loose. Varner reigns down some hard punches with some ground and pound but Cerrone proves that he can take quite a hit. Fight gets back to the feet. End of round 1.

Second round opens with both fighters looking fresh. Fight goes to the ground but back to the feet shortly after.  Cerrone looks more composed as he aggresses on Varner. Varner takes it to the ground and works some ground and pound and then back to the feet. It’s an up and down round with it going back to the ground. Cerrone works a nice leg triangle but there are only seconds left in the round. End of round 2.

Third Round starts with fighters exchanging punches and leg kicks. Varner lands a solid right, cutting Cerrone. Cerrone goes to the ground and Varner moves in and attempts a guillotine but Cerrone gets out of it. Back to standing. The cut is bleeding into Cerrone’s eyes and he’s blinking and swelling. Obviously his visibility is being effected. Fight goes to the ground one more time to end round 3.

Round 4 starts with Varner landing a hard kick to the right side of Cerrone’s jaw and Cerrone barely moves. Fight eventually goes to the ground after a lot of going around the ring. Cerrone works on a leg triangle but can’t get it. Going to round 5.

Round 5 starts with a hug??? Fight goes to the ground but gets back to the feet with Cerrone doing a strange bock roll to his feet. Cerrone takes Varner to the ground shortly afterward. Cerrone unintentionally nails Varner in the head with a heavy knee that looked like it grazed his temple while Varner was still not quite off of the ground yet. The fight is stopped and Cerrone is sent to a neutral corner. Varner says he can not see and he’s very light-headed. Josh Rosenthal calls a stop to the fight and a decision will be made from the score cards. Jamie Varner wins by split decision. (49-46, 48-47, 49-46)
