Weekend Boxing Recap
- In a surprise upset on Friday Night Fights Brian Vera, who appeared on the third season of The Contender reality series, defeated highly rated super middleweight Andy Lee via seventh round TKO. The upset boosted Vera’s record to 16-1 while Lee’s now-imperfect record stands at 15-1.
- Andreas Kotelnik captured the WBA light welterweight crown over the weekend with a twelfth round TKO over Gavin Rees in Cardiff, Wales.
- Joel Cassamayor defeated Michael Katsidis via tenth round TKO to retain his Ring lightweight title. Many bouts lie ahead for both fighters though no official plans have yet been announced.
- Librado Andrade topped Robert Stieglitz via eighth round TKO over the weekend in a super middleweight title eliminator and will now face Lucian Bute for the title.
