Weird Things Happen When You Don’t Follow Up

Yesterday I called the company I contract most of my writing through.

The first thing out of the mouth of the woman I talked to was, “We thought you didn’t like us anymore.”

Huh?

I told her that since we hadn’t talked in two weeks I had feared the same thing.

Had I not followed up, I probably wouldn’t have gotten more assignments because the editors thought we had a problem and I was worried there might be a problem. That is not a recipe for getting more work!

Since I called and talked to them, everything was confirmed as still being hunky-dory and I was assigned another assignment while we were on the phone!

So if you’re worried someone has an issue with you because you haven’t talked to them, pick up the phone and call. Odds are it is just a misunderstanding, and if there is a problem it gives you a chance to talk it out and get back to a good place in your business relationship.
