What about local races?

On the national level, the various candidates are spending this time to get back into the groove of campaigning after the conventions. While they do that, I’d like to know what local races you’re following. Who are you supporting to represent your state after the general election? Are there any state races that are particularly heavy?

We’d love it you would add the website for the candidate you’re talking about when you comment — we’re hoping to put together a list of particularly interesting candidates that we’ll post here on One Vote Matters.

The race for my congressional district (Maryland’s 7th) isn’t particularly exciting — Elijah Cummings has been our representative since 1996 and his opponent has raised only $8,400. Cummings has spent over $400,000, by the way, and has raised an additional $300,000.

There is, however, a state constitutional amendment that will be on the ballot in November. I’m keeping a close eye on this one because I’m an election judge and it will change how we handle voters who show up at the wrong polling place in the future — in most cases, we’ll be told to just let them vote. I still haven’t decided how I feel about that one, but it’s a state campaign I’m keeping a close eye on.

Let us know in the comments which races you’re keeping an eye on, and why.
